TURMERIC GOLDEN MILK AND ITS BENEFITS

Turmeric “golden milk” Tea is a very flavorful little drink that I have come to LOVE, so much so, that I try to drink it every night right before bedtime. It helps me wind down from my hectic days with its sweet aroma & frothy taste. This drink is the perfect “subtle” way to start incorporating healthier and beneficial alternatives to our lives if we are looking to make healthier choices with what we put in our bodies.  I first learned about this drink from an Ayurveda website I came across a long time ago, unfortunately I don’t remember the site’s address but after learning about it I did a lot more research on it and I was amazed at what I found.

Turmeric has SO many benefits it’s crazy! Turmeric contains a wide range of antioxidants, antivirals, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, antimutagenic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also loaded with many other health nutrients such as protein, dietary fiber, niacin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, zinc among many others. For these reasons, it’s been a go to drink for centuries in South Asia in aiding with improving arthritis, cancer prevention, maintaining a healthy liver, blood purifier, aiding in diabetes control and weight management to name a few. This little drink is very well deserving of its nickname “Liquid Gold”.  Make this part of your daily routine and I guarantee you will begin to notice its wonders. Since drinking it, I have fewer and less aggressive breakouts, less anxiety, less water retention, an issue I’ve struggled with because I don’t drink the water my body needs…I’m working on it though…, I sleep better, have better digestion and less migraines even. It’s helped me recover quicker from the common cold/flu.

With that being said, I will throw this quick disclaimer, I am by no means a health care professional. The info shared here was gathered from various online articles that I find to be reliable as well as personal experiences from old school peeps that have used this little tea in their families for at least 100 years. It is also believed to have some cons such as blood thinning, accelerating contractions with pregnant women amongst a few others, please do your own due diligence and consult your healthcare profesh prior to trying this recipe. Don’t rely solely on this drink to cure your diabetes or any other medical condition currently being treated by a Doctor.  My body is a hippie and I know it well, so I know my limitations.

Okie dokie, ready for the recipe?

The original recipe is simple & straight to the point.

Soy/Almond/Coconut Milk

3/4 tsp Turmeric powder – fresh is also acceptable

Organic raw honey to taste

Pinch of black ground pepper to taste – more black pepper = spicier taste

bring all ingredients to an almost boil on your stove top, mix & enjoy.

When I have a few minutes to spare & in the mood for a “fancier” version of this amazing tea, I like to kick it up a notch. Here’s what I call Golden Milk Chai Latte

Coconut milk ( in my opinion, coconut milk tastes so much better, but you can use almond or soy)

3/4 tsp Turmeric powder

1 tbsp. Local organic raw honey

Pinch of black ground pepper

Pinch of All Spice powder

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1 stick of cinnamon ( I love cinnamon ) to stir in any clumps that may have formed

** When I’m feeling low on energy I brew a green tea baggie right in the milk- Some green tea contain caffeine, so don’t add the green tea close to bedtime

**When I need an extra push toward relaxation & better sleep I like to brew a baggie of chamomile tea right in the milk

Do you have a “Golden Milk” story to share? I’d love to hear it!
